Read Story5.1.2010 : GA HOPE SCHOLARSHIP AVAILABLE FOR AL RESIDENTS

A military wave will hit Fort Benning, Georgia, and the Chattahoochee Valley -- which includes Phenix City -- in November and not stop rolling until September 2011.

 The latest U.S. Army numbers indicate 28,000 new people will be moving into the Chattahoochee Valley from Kentucky over the next 18 months. That includes more than 11,400 service members, government civilian workers and defense contractors. The rest are spouses and children.

This is part of the Base Realignment and Closure process that has been bubbling for five years.

The law allows active duty military stationed at a Georgia post to be eligible for Georgia's HOPE regardless of where they reside or where their kids go to school. The students must meet the academic requirements to receive the scholarship that pays tuition and partial book fees to Georgia colleges and universities.

Read Story11.10.2009 : Tax Credit Extended
This is noteworthy news!  Congress has extended and expaned Homebuyer Tax Credits! 
Here's an overview of the new and improved program:
- Extends the existing $8,000 credit for first-time homebuyers through
   April 30, 2010
- Now move-up buyers can qualify for a $6,500 tax credit as long as you
   have lived in your home for five consecutive years out of the past
   eight years
- Income limits have increased to $125,000 per individual and $225,000  
   per married couple
- Additionally, buyers who enter into contracts written before April 30 will
  have until June 30 to close escrow

In the Military?

- For military personnel, the credit has been extended through December 1, 2010
